How to take an important decision? Meditate on it!

I often get this question from my friends and yoga students: how do you take an important decision?

We all have some moments in life, when we are confronted with unexpected change and we have to cope with it. Even better, we are challenged to take a decision that is going to change our life. It can be a decision concerning our job, our family, the place we live in etc. It can be very stressful. We may feel fear to take the “wrong” decision that will have bad consequences in our life. We feel a lot of pressure and weight on our shoulders.

Before practising meditation, I felt the same anxiety on failing to take the best decision. My mind was racing all over the place, constantly moving from one option to another, always finding good motives sustaining either one or the other choice. This was very confusing and at the end, it didn’t help much. Sounds familiar? I think that probably we all react that way, because our minds function pretty much the same way. The pressure coming from the importance of the decision adds even more stress and confusion in our mind.

So, the logic of writing down pros and cons to each option, leads to more confusion, in my experience.

Now, my answer to that question is different, I reply: “meditate on it”. I discovered that with a regular meditation practice, the clear answer is coming from our inner wisdom. The brain connects to the heart’s desires. We know that: “when the heart speaks, we have to take good notes”.

The answer that will change our life for the better comes from our intuition that is behind the chatting of the mind. If we do not go into silence, we will not be able to tap into this valuable resource. The right decision to take will become an evidence. It may take one session of meditation to get the answer to our question or more sessions, it depends on how complex the decision to take can be and on the impact on our lives. This way of taking decision is a “no regrets” approach. When you tap into your inner wisdom, there is no error possible. This happened to me. I used to be scared to have taken the “bad” decision and often it was justified, because I took it out of the confusion of my agitated mind. Now, it does not happen any more. I know that it was the best decision for me, out of my meditation practice.

Of course, meditation is not only about taking decision, but it certainly helps to clear the fog in our mind, especially with no stress or fear involved.

Free hugs in the kindness week

This year again I did it! I went out in the city to give “free hugs” together with my dear friend and guide Dominica and with a Masterkey member Cristina (well done, ladies, you are both a sunshine!).

I would never have done it without them, as I am a little shy by nature. Anyway, it is always a great experience and it warms my heart. The people around were surprised, sometimes it was hard for them to understand what was going on. It was also hard to believe that we did something for free 😉

Once they understood, many were open and literally runned into our open arms. I love this experience and I advice to do it yourself too, with a friend. You will feel a warm connection with a total stranger, making the world a little kinder.

Clouds in the sky Weeks 6 and 7

Last week, I was on holidays and it is always nice to have free time to let our busy mind relax a bit. New fresh thoughts keep pouring in! My vision for the future gets more focus and attention, when I eliminate those useless spam thoughts..Even more, since I started (again) my mental diet 😉

Therefore, I am grateful for those precious moments, where I can just “be”. Looking at the sky, following the clouds passing by, as I did in the childhood (this was something I loved to do). This is also a powerful metaphore for the mind and the thoughts, that I use a lot during my meditation and yoga time: with the eyes closed, I focus and then I observe my thoughts passing by. I let them pass like clouds in the sky, and focus again. Then, I do not give energy to them, or they will get me out of the meditative state. By doing this, I apply especially one of the 7 laws of the mind: the law of relaxation, that help us access our inner power, our True Self.

So, my advice this week: find some time to simply look at the sky and let go…then see what happens!

Dig deeper Week 5

I am travelling this week. This is not a surprise, since I discovered that I love visiting new places…I also have to escape the grey sky in Belgium and I need to reconnect with the warmth and light of my country, Italy. This is the destiny of someone who decided to expatriate, years ago and now lives split in two parts: the italian one, with family of origin and old friends there and the belgian one, where my work is, with the family and friends I created here.

Every day I meditate 15 minutes, since 2 years, when I started the Masterkey experience and I see the value of that habit: I dig deeper and deeper into mysef. Practicing positive thinking, gratitude and no opinions is completing the new framework of my life. Actually, I discover many things about myself and especially, I am detached from the useless thoughts of my mind. I do not believe any thought anymore, like in the past. Believing the mind, only leads to more confusion. I listen to my heart, by silencing the mind. I trust and follow my intuition. Heart and intuition never fail, the mind does…

Busy Week 4

I am feeling very busy this week. I try to cope with all my daily tasks, but the more I run after them, the more they seem to come back to me. Again, I see that I am running after the clock, instead of following my heart’s desires and using the compass!

So, my energy goes low. Maybe it is also this period of the year, when we get less light here up North. The struggle is real: taking care of my own dharma and at the same time nurturing the DMPs of my tribe members. The day is made of 24 hours…I hope to find a good balance in helping others and in helping me. Often, I am so devoted to others that I forget about myself (I am also a mother…). I know that this is not beneficial to me and in the long run also to others. Anyhow, this was my main concern during this week.

I am happy to see all the new member of the Masterkey experience, they are so enthusiastic and doing such a great work! I am so proud of being a guide for that programme.
